How Rufus Got His Name

Once there was a little puppy with a shiny brown coat. His fur had orange stripes, a little like a tiger. He also had a white tummy and a little white patch on his neck which looked just like a bone.

One day the little puppy was taken by a bad person and left all alone in the cold without his mummy and his brothers and sisters. The little puppy was very sad, as he had loved his family with all his heart. He had also loved his owners and tried so hard to make them happy. He didn't understand what he had done wrong to be left alone in the cold.

The little puppy wandered around, but he was lost and couldn't find his way home. After many hours he was found by a man in a blue jacket and a hat. The man seemed kind and asked the little puppy what his name was, but the little puppy couldn't tell him because he didn't know.

The kind man said that he was a policeman and he put the little puppy in his special car. He took the little puppy to a place where there were lots of other dogs and gave him to some friendly people there. The friendly people put him in a small room with blankets and food. They asked him what his name was, but the little puppy did not know.

The little puppy was glad to be warm, but he wished he had a name and somebody to cuddle all the time. People would come and look at him and the other dogs, but he didn't get to cuddle them.

One day a man and a woman came to his little room with one of the friendly people. The man and woman said that they would take him for a walk. The little puppy was very excited, he bounced around the trees and decided to give the man and woman a cuddle. The man said to the little puppy "would you like to be called Rufus?"

The little puppy wanted very much to be called Rufus, he was so happy to have a name that he gave the man a big lick and wagged his tail.

The man and woman said to the little puppy "come on Rufus, we want you to live at our house with us!"

Rufus was very happy! He went with the man and woman in their car and when they got to the house he was given a warm bed and lots of cuddles. He played in the garden and wagged his tail.

The best thing of all was having his very own collar! Rufus had never had a collar before and this one even had a name tag! The man put the collar on Rufus, who gave him a big lick and wagged his tail to show how happy he was.

At last Rufus had a name and new owners who loved him, very, very much!
